Blog Tour Ideas?

April 16, 2011

Hi, all! In case you weren’t aware, Hunted will be released in four months (not counting April)! FOUR STINKIN’ MONTHS! Whoohoo! Anyway, I’m currently planning out a small blog tour leading up to the release and I was wondering if you could help me out by answering this question:

What do you like to see on blog tours in terms of content?

I’m a complete newb when it comes to blog tours, so any suggestions are welcome!

I’m not sure exactly what a blog tour is…lol… but I’d be happy to help out if I knew.

On that topic, I’ve done author interviews on my blog with other debut authors like Leigh Fallon and Jeyn Roberts. If you would like me to promote your book in that way, just send me an email at elanor_gamgee [at] yahoo [dot] ca.

I like when authors talk about their process in writing their story, where they got the idea for the story. I also like when they talk about craft techniques. You should check out Janice Hardy’s website/blog because she gave an idea of what worked and what didn’t work for her blog tour.

    -Character Interviews <3
-Special excerpts/stuff like first 500 words of very first, roughest draft. (But that’s not recommended until you’ve got a sample chapter of the finished copy up).
    -Creative author interviews.
-Fun stuff like why the characters got their names.
-Contests like re-create cover contests (even though Im not sure if those are parts of tours).

I’ll let you know if I think of anything else πŸ™‚

    Good luck!

Thanks for the great ideas/suggestions so far!

Najela ~ I checked out Janice Hardy’s tips and found them useful. Thanks for pointing out her site.

Four months?! Wow, it’s sneaking up! I’m so freaking excited for you DJ! And of course, I can’t wait to read it. I think that everyone has some good ideas.
I like to see a playlist for the book.
And that seems to be all I can think of other then what’s been mentioned…
Are you running the tour yourself? Or are you getting someone to put it together for you? If your looking for someone, Kismet Book Tours is awesome! They’re brand new but are doing the Starcrossed tour and so far they are super organized. Anyway, I’m not here to pimp them, just wanted to let you know in case your looking for someone. And if your doing it yourself I’d love to have you on πŸ˜‰

Ooh, this is so exciting, DJ! Can’t wait to follow your tour around the blogosphere and help get the word out about Hunted! I’m with others…I enjoy reading about how you got the idea for your story and what the writing process was like for you and also maybe what the publishing process was like.

Congrats on only 4 more months to go!

Ideally, you as an author get a bunch of bloggers to host a post for the Tour. For example: you build up a schedule, be it 10-15 days long, and plan something for each day. You can write a guest post for a blogger to post on their day, giveaways, character interviews, anything!

    I’d be happy to help!

I think everyone has pretty much covered it but the best thing to do is to go around to different blogs and do an interview or Q&A so that readers can get to know you better.

I’d love to be part of your blog tour and help you out!
