Bookish Chat: Finishing A Series..Or Not Finishing

January 28, 2014

There’s an unparalleled excitement and sense of accomplishment upon finishing a series. Still, with so many series lining the shelves, it can be rather hard to keep up with them all, especially with new ones popping up all over the place.

I’m a bit ashamed to admit the number of series I need to finish. It’s not that I don’t want to – I do, I do! But something’s holding me back. A large part of this hesitation is that it’s been way too long since I last read the previous books that at this point I need to just start over. And that requires a large chunk of time, time that I could spend reading a new book, maybe one that is a standalone. Then there are series that I’m itching to start, like Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series or Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld books. Again, though, that takes time and I’m not sure I want to dedicate my reading time to a single series.

What say you, fellow readers? Which series have you yet to finish? Which ones are you eager to start? Sound off!

I’m the exact same way. I read the first in a series and love it. But by the time I have to wait a year for the next book to come out, I can’t remember very many details and I get daunted by starting the second. I’ve found I’ve started to wait until the entire series is out before I pick up the first book.
