Review: Entice by Carrie Jones

I have been a loyal and enthusiastic fan of Carrie Jones’ Need series. Need was one of the first books I ever reviewed for Schuler Books and as soon as I started I was hooked. Then Captivate was released and defied my expectations. Now, with Entice, Ms. Jones has once again made me fall further in love with the series and its characters.

Zara has always been a relatable character and one that is quirky, funny, and all around loveable. She continues to be all that and more in this book, and I think it’s really all thanks to Ms. Jones’ writing. By writing in the present tense, I felt as though I were really there and feeling/experiencing the things Zara did. Her confliction with her feelings toward Astley is genuine and believable, unlike some love “triangles” out there. The way she is fiercely protective of her friends and family is admirable and I understand the feeling of wanting to help those you love, but being unsure of how to accomplish that.

Speaking of Astley…He has won me over. I have always been a faithful member of Team Nick, but Astley really demonstrates how caring and protective he is of Zara. I sure hope his feelings are genuine because he seems like a great, well, pixie.

So, this means the romance factor of the story scores a high grade in my book. 😀 Zara’s determination to save Nick is romantic, but so is, as I just mentioned, Astley’s regard for Zara.

Ms. Jones’ writing is just as fluid, comical, and beautiful as ever. I read this while sitting in the hall waiting for class and I struggled to hide my smiles! Zara is a hilarious narrator and I’m glad her phobia knowledge continues to show up. The Norse mythology adds a splendid dimension to the story and I love how Ms. Jones has incorporated it.

All in all, Entice is an amazing addition to the series, which is made of awesome sauce. 🙂 The story is just as engaging and romantic as the previous two installments, and I can only imagine how epic the next book will be. If you haven’t started reading this series yet, please don’t wait any longer!

I really enjoy this series and look forward to finding out what will happen next. Zara is a fun character (I definitely like her more than Meghan Chase from The Iron Fey series) but Astley is my favorite character by far. I have to admit that I am firmly Team Astley after reading Entice 🙂 Great review!
