Losing Followers…?

June 13, 2010

Okay, this has happened a few times and I’d like to know if anyone else is having the same problem.

Once in awhile, it’ll say I have a certain number of followers. Then a little bit later, it’ll say I have one or two less than before. Do people not like me anymore or is this a Blogger glitch?
As a blogger, reader, and writer, I don’t always have the time to visit every blog I follow and regularly leave leave comments. For this, I am deeply sorry. I try my best to set aside a day to go through the recent posts and leave comments, but I’m only human and sometimes I just can’t find the time. If my inactivity on people’s blogs is causing people to un-follow me, I’m very sorry.

This has happened to me a couple times and I’ve had the same doubts. I just figure a lot of people are over-committing themselves to too many blogs and having having to cull their list. If they like you they’ll be back for sure πŸ˜€

I’ve been losing followers this weekend too. I have a feeling that people are “cleaning out” their readers.

At first it was really bothering me, but as I think about it more I can understand. I have stopped following blogs in the past if they just don’t read the same sort of books that I do. I don’t think it really has anything to do with us. Hopefully we’ll find followers that like the same things that we do and want to hang around.

awwww don’t be silly of course its not your fault, you should have seen me a few days back i made an exact same post but i got some great feedback so i felt a lot better, as they said, its their loss it does happen but in the end of the day only your true followers will stick by you, those that don’t care don’t matter simple as πŸ™‚

I’ve never un-followed anyone. Not yet anyway. But I follow A LOT of blogs! I do know that those that visit my blog I visit much more often then those who never leave comments on my blog. I only noticed once that I lost a couple followers and that was after a big contest that was FOR followers. So I figured they just followed for the contest. Now I don’t require you to follow my blog for any of my contests. I want people to follow for more then just getting free stuff.
I think Theresa might be right though. Lots of people were working on their blogs for bloggiesta and they probably did some cleaning out.

I’ve lost a follower and expect it will happen again. I understand the need to weed through one’s following list. I do wish there was an exit form that would allow a reader to say why they are leaving like, “didn’t post enough” or “dissimilar interests” so I know why it happens. I wouldn’t sweat the losses though! Following rates are bound to fluctuate. I’m moving to a new blog so I’ve got a whole other ball game going on with trying to redirect current followers.

Thank you all for your input! I was worried that I was doing something wrong, but it never dawned on me that people might just want to clean their lists out, which is fine. πŸ™‚ Most of my followers are from the Linger contest I had, so they most likely only became a follower for that, so I guess my number of followers isn’t all that accurate to begin with, haha. But in the end, followers really don’t matter. Yes, I’ll be ecstatic when I reach 200, just as I was when I reached 20, but as long as people like my blog and what I have to offer, than the rest doesn’t matter, does it?

Hey DJ, I found your comment on my blog. ^^ I must say, we have quite a bit in common with read-alikes. You have some books I’ve been dying to read (Anna and the French Kiss looks so cute…) and I see a few of the books on your TBR are coming up in a future review. πŸ˜‰ I’m following you now, so keep up the good posts.

I think one the bloggiesta challenges is to tidy up their google Reader. I wouldn’t take it personally though! Anyway, I’m a new follower, thanks for stopping by my blog.

This has happened to me. Sometimes when I get a new follower it won’t add them to how many followers I have. It will just say I have the same number, but it shows more than it says I have. It gets really frustrating. I would like to think that it’s just a blogger glitch. They seem to have a few of them. Once it wouldn’t show the blogs I’m following. The next day it was fixed, but it happened again the other day. I don’t think anyone would purposely un-follow you to be mean.

I sometimes stop following a blog when they have a series of posts that just don’t interest me. If I see a constant stream of product reviews that aren’t books, I will stop following. Sometimes I go through my list and stop following a blog that hasn’t posted in a long time. I follow more than 300 blogs and I do try to read and comment frequently. It does take time I could better spend reading but I like the community feel.

I’m not sure if this has happened to me but it could just be a glitch although I agree with Kathy Martin that it could be the case but I love the content you post so I’m thinking it’s more likely a glitch in your case.
