Melissa de la Cruz Signing

November 4, 2010

Last night I had the honor of meeting Melissa de la Cruz, the amazing author of the Blue Blood series as well as several other books. 🙂 Not only was I excited to hear her speak and meet her, I was also excited to meet Erika, the wonderful blogger who runs Moonlight Reviews! She’s the third blogger I’ve met and the first I “knew” before meeting in person. We had a great conversation while waiting in line and I now have a new friend. She is such a lovely person and hopefully you all can meet her someday too.

Melissa de la Cruz was hilarious and extremely friendly! She spoke about the Blue Bloods series and answered a few questions. The crowd wasn’t talkative, but Erika and I both asked questions, though. Melissa gave a lot of insight on the research she’s done for the Blue Bloods series and it was really cool hearing where she got the characters’ names from. Most of them came from lists of prominent families of the past and Mimi’s name came from a list of Titanic passengers! I thought that was awesome! Since people weren’t feeling talkative, the signing portion of the night started relatively soon. I got in the end of the line and after Erika got her books signed she came and kept me company. 🙂

Melissa was so kind when I went up and was really excited to meet a Twitter friend. She asked me who my favorite character was and I naturally said Schuyler, and then added Oliver to the mix. And then I got all fanboy-ish and said, “But I really want Schuyler and Jack to end up together in the end”. Melissa laughed and after she signed my books, we had our picture taken (Thanks, Erika!).

Also, since the event took place at a Schuler Books (whoot hoot!), I got to meet an employee who I’ve spoken to through GoodReads and whatnot, so it turned out to be a great evening to meet people, haha. She was also nice enough to give me a few ARCs she had extras of!

Overall, I had a wonderful time and I’m so glad I was able to attend the event! It’s always a pleasure to meet my favorite authors, as well as fellow bloggers. 🙂 Oh, and Melissa was kind enough to sign a copy of the first Blue Bloods book for one lucky follower! BUT you’ll all have to wait because I’m saving it for a little later. 🙂

I went to the signing last night, too. I felt bad for her that more questions weren’t asked, but sadly didn’t have any questions myself since the book was still on my ever large TBR pile. Even without a lot of questions though, I thought it was an interesting talk.

Sounds like a fun night. I didn’t know that about the names in the books, its really interesting – who would have thought Mimi is from the Titanic?

BTW: Love the Blue Blood series.
