My Blog Is Feeling Neglected. Is Yours?

February 13, 2011

Yes, it’s true, my blog has been crying for the past month or so, hysterically sobbing and crying out, “Why am I not getting any comments?!?! WHHHHYYY?”

Okay, so that’s not true. But I have noticed I’ve been getting fewer and fewer comments. Some posts receive none *coughEnticereviewcough*. 😉 But I’ve got a theory on this (cue “I’ve Got a Theory” ~ Buffy: Once More With Feeling). Most of us are either in school, at work, or both, and are busy, especially when you throw kids into the mix. And it doesn’t help that the winter season is when we’re all working/learning full time. So, my theory is that summer is the optimal time for blog love. People seem to have more time then and can focus on their reading/reviewing/commenting. I don’t know, that’s just my theory. 🙂
Anyone else agree or have different thoughts? Is there something I’m not doing that I should be in order to encourage commenting?

Hey every blogger knows how it feels and really? I don’t think there is any particular reason to it. Sometimes bloggers are more active on the blog and sometimes they just aren’t. It’s happened to me on some posts, but I try not to think to much into it because then it would just niggle at me! Dude the followers on the side are proof of the support you have, don’t let the lack of comments get to you DJ! 🙂

I have some posts that get no comments and some that get only one. It is mostly the memes that people tend to comment on. I know that I follow a lot of blogs and my Google Reader is overwhelmingly full (1000+ unread) at the moment. I just haven’t had the time to devote to visiting all the blogs and reading all the posts so I feel really bad. I try to catch up on weekends but that is also the time I have to do household chores and write reviews which I am also really behind on 🙁

I hope your blog gets more visits soon! It most likely is just a time issue. There are a couple of memes devoted to book reviews where you can link up your reviews and visit other people’s reviews. You might try that. I really like participating in the What Are You Reading meme at Book Journey (http://bookjourney.wordpress.com). It is a great way to tell people about the books you’ve read and reviewed each week plus Sheila’s blog is just fantastic. If you are interested, it takes place every Monday (she usually posts it at 10 p.m. on Sunday nights). Hope that helps.

Yeah, I really do think it’s a time issue. I struggle myself to stay on top of blogging, so I totally understand. I was just curious to see what everyone else thought. 🙂

I thought it was the opposite. More people comment in the winter because they are stuck inside but in the summer they are out and doing things. BUT your right that a lot of people are in school and stuff… so who knows? It seems like my blog has never been so active, but I jumped in followers not so long ago so I guess I got some more active ones. Also it depends on what your posting. My reviews get an average of 5 comments, but sometimes less, sometimes more. But my IMM or other memes get 15+ comments. And then my posts about other things blogging related get even more. But we all go through slow times:(
I’d go comment on your Entice review but I really disliked Need and didn’t read any further. We all have different taste in books though, we can’t all love the same thing!
I have to confess that I haven’t been by your blog in a bit though, so I’m going to look through real quick. (If the kids let me…)

BWAAAAA! Candace you get 15+ sometimes! That makes me feel ill. Anyways my blog is in a lull too! You are the only one besides a couple others who ever comment! Thanks! But yes my blog has had so little traffic lately. People are actually coming to my blog though but not commenting which is sad! Anyways i am going to get to your entice review! i haven’t read the book yet but love the series. love ya! xoxo

Aw, I’m sorry for the lack of comment love. I feel it a lot too…but I don’t know why. Not sure why certain posts do better than others either. Sorry for the lack of advice! 🙂

Some posts get more comments than others. Really the only ones on my blog that seem to get any are my discussion/question topics (like the Am I A Bad Person? post about feeling guilty using the library instead of buying books) or the Blog Hop (which seems to depend mostly on how much you post on others or how close your blog is to the beginning of the list).

My book reviews tend not to see any comment love, which I understand for the most part. I normally read reviews and keep them in mind, giving a silent thanks and going on my way. It’s really only posts that ask for my input that I even think of responding to.

    Hence…

I was wondering the very same thing this morning. I haven’t really been getting any comments, even on a giveaway! I’m asking questions trying to engage my readers and still nothing. I was thinking maybe I need to change things up a little bit.
