Review: Outside In by Maria V. Snyder

March 24, 2011

Maria V. Snyder is a goddess of writing. Just sayin’…

Inside Out, the first book in the series, was one of–if not the–first dystopian book I had read. I immediately fell in love with Trella, Riley, and the complex, futuristic world of Inside. Ms. Snyder’s writing also enthralled me. All the things I love about the first book can be found in the sequel, Outside In.

Ms. Snyder’s writing continues to be amazing and I can’t wait to start reading her other books. Her descriptions are always spot-on, clear, and concise, which makes for a fluid, and understandable read. Everything played out so vividly in my mind, like a movie. And it was a movie I didn’t want to end. 🙂

Feeling the pressure and weight of being a sort of leader, Trella struggles to find confidence in the book. But that doesn’t mean she’s not as clever and kick-butt as she is in the first book. Despite the dystopian/futuristic setting and the societal issues, she is a character everyone can relate to. She’s afraid of letting people down and as a result she makes mistakes. We’ve all felt/done the same at some point or another, haven’t we?

With a witty, resourceful heroine, a sweet romance, and plenty of action to keep the fingers turning the pages, it’s hard not to love this book, as well as the first book. Although the story wraps up rather nicely at the end, there seems to be room for another installment. Ms. Snyder, if you’re reading this, please write another book in the series! I need more! 😀
