Review Part Two: Kiss Me Deadly by Various Authors

August 11, 2010
I had only four short stories left to read in Trisha Telep’s latest anthology, Kiss Me Deadly, and I had enough time today to finish reading them! So, here we go:

Fearless by Rachel Vincent: I haven’t read Ms. Vincent’s Soul Screamers series and I wish I had to get a better understanding of mara’s. This story is good and I’m sure fans of the normal series will love it, but as a newbie, I felt a little confused, but overall, I enjoyed it. It did make me want to read the series, so that’s good. šŸ™‚

Vermillion by Daniel Marks: Like the Diana Peterfreund story, I found Vermillion be too confusing to enjoy and even read. I had to re-read the first two pages several times and was still confused. I ended up skimming it and probably won’t go back and try to read it again.

The Hounds of Ulster by Maggie Stiefvater: This short tied into Lament and Ballad, particularly the latter. I liked it, but like Ballad, I didn’t love it. The writing is a little too directed at the reader for my taste, but some people like that format, so I’m sure many will enjoy it.

Many Happy Returns by Daniel Waters: Like the Rachel Vincent story, I think I needed to have read the Generation Dead series in order to fully understand this story’s events. The writing was good and the story was sad and romantic. I liked it, but didn’t love it.
Well, there you have it, the rest of my thoughts on Kiss Me Deadly! Even though I didn’t enjoy a few of the stories, I really enjoyed this anthology and with so many great authors, many readers will like it, too. šŸ™‚
