Review: Passion by Lauren Kate

June 14, 2011
For those of you unfamiliar with Lauren Kate’s “Fallen” series, Passion is the third installment and serves as a sort of prequel. Chronicling Luce and Daniel’s past lives, this book delves deeper into their history and love, as well as the curse that binds them and tears them apart.

Lauren Kate’s writing continues to be smooth, descriptive, and easy to follow, which is good since the story can be a little confusing with all the history and past lives. She has described the historical settings beautifully and has really brought them to life. I love how the third person narration provides intimate looks inside Luce’s head, as well as Daniel’s. At times I wanted to shake Luce by the shoulders and tell her that Daniel truly loves her, but this doubt and need to discover the reasoning behind the curse fuels her actions and reaffirms her determination.

Although I felt like the plot moved slowly, the last portion of the book picked up speed and made a powerful impact. The fourth and final book, Rapture, comes out next year and I can already tell it’s going to be an epic conclusion. 🙂

I unfortunately still have Torment sitting on my shelf unread, so I’m a tad behind. I may just hold off till Rapture comes out (which I didn’t even know was coming!) and re-read Fallen. Thanks for the review DJ!
