Review: Perception by Kim Harrington

March 30, 2012

Perception is the sequel to Kim Harrington’s Clarity, which is a YA paranormal mystery/romance. Much like Kiersten White’s Paranormalcy, this series is a breath of fresh air and manages to stand out amongst the other paranormal books thanks to its wit, plot twists, and unique characters.

Clare is one of the main reasons I love this series, and, even more so, this sequel. Being the outcast has (and having a psychic power) has given her the ability to see her classmates’ true identities, and this gives her an interesting voice/perspective to read. She is so personable that it didn’t take long for me to reconnect with her and jump back inside her head. I really like how Ms. Harrington handles Clare’s trust issues and her indecisiveness over Justin and Gabriel. Clare has some great thoughts, too, and she had me cracking up several times. 🙂

The romantic and mystery elements compliment each other nicely and give the book a balanced plot, one that moves quickly and will keep readers guessing right up to the end. I would talk more about these aspects, but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. So you’ll just have to pick up a copy and read it!

All in all, this is a well-written sequel that is just as enjoyable as the first installment. Ms. Harrington has combined humor, intrigue, and romance to deliver a well executed story that illustrates just how great of a writer she is. If you haven’t started this series yet, you’re missing out on a fun and unique story.
