Review: Perception by Kim Harrington

March 30, 2012

Perception is the sequel to Kim Harrington’s Clarity, which is a YA paranormal mystery/romance. Much like Kiersten White’s Paranormalcy, this series is a breath of fresh air and manages to stand out amongst the other paranormal books thanks to its wit, plot twists, and unique characters.

Clare is one of the main reasons I love this series, and, even more so, this sequel. Being the outcast has (and having a psychic power) has given her the ability to see her classmates’ true identities, and this gives her an interesting voice/perspective to read. She is so personable that it didn’t take long for me to reconnect with her and jump back inside her head. I really like how Ms. Harrington handles Clare’s trust issues and her indecisiveness over Justin and Gabriel. Clare has some great thoughts, too, and she had me cracking up several times. πŸ™‚

The romantic and mystery elements compliment each other nicely and give the book a balanced plot, one that moves quickly and will keep readers guessing right up to the end. I would talk more about these aspects, but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. So you’ll just have to pick up a copy and read it!

All in all, this is a well-written sequel that is just as enjoyable as the first installment. Ms. Harrington has combined humor, intrigue, and romance to deliver a well executed story that illustrates just how great of a writer she is. If you haven’t started this series yet, you’re missing out on a fun and unique story.
