Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

January 9, 2013

Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Luxseries is one that everybody talks about. I’ve read numerous glowing reviews and declarations of love for Daemon. Now that I’ve finally read Obsidian, I understand the craze.

Ms. Armentrout’s writing is clear, descriptive, and fluid, which are all qualities of a seasoned writer. The world she has created presents aliens in a refreshing and exciting light. She has also given her colorful cast of characters unique personalities and distinct voices, which results in a wonderful mix of humor, romance, and action. Katy, in particular, makes for an entertaining and enjoyable narrator with her humor and very believable teen voice.
And then there’s Daemon. Sexy, troubling, arrogant Daemon. Ms. Armentrout has written the quintessential bad boy, the kind of guy readers will undoubtedly swoon over. He has the right amount of arrogance to make him stubborn, yet enough kindness to balance it out.
Overall, Obsidianis a well-executed story that will keep readers engrossed with its high-stakes action and sizzling romance. This is definitely a must-read, especially if you’re a fan of the show Roswell!
