I am very excited and honored to be a part of Shannon Delany’s blog tour for her latest release Weather Witch, which releases on June 25th! For today’s stop, I have a lovely guest post from Shannon on why she wanted to be a writer. And be sure to read until of the post for a giveaway!
I’ve written ever since I learned to write my alphabet. My childhood was full of stories–my father was a history teacher who did Revolutionary War reenactment. My mother was from the deep South where story telling is an art form. My mother was also strongly Christian and loved the stories that make up the soul of the Bible so I heard those often and told many different ways. My aunt was a head librarian who took a library from being one room in a private person’s basement to being a large and modern hub of society in a bustling Virginia city.
I really never had a choice but tell stories and write. It’s an ingrained need.
For a while I wanted to be a journalist (all the while writing fiction on the side). I’ve done some pieces for newspapers and articles for magazines (and I respect true journalism) but it’s not where my heart is. If I have to tell a story I like it to be stories I create from scratch.
So my reason for writing is simply that I can’t not write. Creation is not just a want for me, it’s a fierce need.
